IRUDLab Strengthens Research Culture among UNDIP International Relations Students through IRUDLab Discussion on Gender, Maritime, and Japanese Studies Issues

Semarang, September 2023 – IRUDLab (International Relations Universitas Diponegoro Laboratory) successfully held a series of monthly discussion forums throughout September 2023. The events brought together diverse topics in International Relations studies and featured both UNDIP lecturers and guest speakers. Taking place at the Diplomacy Lab UNDIP in a hybrid format, these discussions served as an essential platform for students to broaden their academic horizons, enhance analytical skills, and build collaborative research networks.

The series of activities began with IRUDLab Discussion #2: Your Current Research, held on September 6, 2023, moderated by Khori Tirta and Davin Krisna. This session focused on providing a space for the exchange of ideas on research being developed by students, encouraging collaboration, and opening up opportunities for constructive criticism.

Continuing on 13 September 2023, IRUDLab presented Discussion #3: Gender Studies moderated by Palupi Anggraheni, S.I.P., M.A. (Lecturer of International Relations UNDIP) with guest speaker Irza Khurun’in, S.I.P., M.A. The discussion explored gender relations and equality issues within International Relations perspectives, attracting high engagement both offline and online.

On 21 September 2023, Discussion #4: Japanese Study through IR Perspective took place with moderator Muhammad Faiq Adi Pratomo, S.I.P., M.Sc. (Lecturer of International Relations UNDIP) and speaker Hamdan Nafiatur Rosyida, S.S., M.Si. This forum examined Japan’s dynamics in global politics, economy, and culture through the lens of IR studies.

The series on September concluded with Discussion #5: Maritime Studies on 27 September 2023, featuring Probo Darono Yakti, S.Hub.Int., M.Hub.Int. (Lecturer of International Relations, Universitas Airlangga) as the main speaker. The discussion highlighted the significance of maritime issues in International Relations, particularly in geopolitics, maritime security, and resource governance.

According to Palupi Anggraheni, S.I.P., M.A., one of the moderators: “Cross-thematic discussions like these create an inclusive collaborative learning space where students can bridge theoretical frameworks with current international issues.”

The IRUDLab September 2023 series underscores the laboratory’s strong commitment to strengthening the research culture of International Relations students at UNDIP. Beyond enhancing students’ academic capacity, these activities also align with UNDIP’s vision of internationalization, encouraging active student participation in global academic forums.
