Core Framework of International Relations

Where Theory Meets Practice in Diplomacy, Security, and Foreign Policy.

Core Framework of International Relations Cluster: Understanding the Foundations of Global Dynamics

This cluster provides a comprehensive foundation for studying international relations by exploring diplomacy, human security, foreign policy analysis, and security studies. It integrates critical and interdisciplinary approaches to examine key global processes, actors, and challenges.

Diplomacy

The Diplomacy Cluster focuses on the study of practices and dynamics in relations between states and non-state actors in building communication, negotiation, and cooperation at the global level. Research in this cluster covers issues such as bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, public diplomacy, digital diplomacy, economic diplomacy, and the role of diplomacy in conflict resolution and the realization of national interests.

This cluster also traces the transformation of contemporary forms of diplomacy, including the emergence of paradiplomacy by local actors, the role of cultural diplomats, and the adaptation of diplomacy in the era of technology and global disruption. In addition to traditional approaches, our research employs critical and interdisciplinary perspectives, combining international relations theory, global negotiation, and the study of international organizations.

Human Security

The Human Security Cluster places human beings at the center of attention, focusing on approaches within traditional security. Research in this cluster includes issues that threaten human life and dignity, such as extreme poverty, armed conflict, human rights violations, climate change, natural disasters, food and water crises, human trafficking, and forced migration.

With a multidisciplinary approach, this cluster examines how national and global policies can be designed to protect individuals from direct and structural threats, as well as promote community resilience. Furthermore, attention is also given to the role of non-state actors—including NGOs, international organizations, and local communities—in building systems of protection and empowerment.

Security Studies

The Security Studies Cluster serves as a platform for examining various approaches and issues in security studies, both in traditional and non-traditional contexts. Research in this cluster includes topics such as interstate conflict, militarization, nuclear weapons, terrorism, energy security, cybersecurity, and threats to the environment and global health.

This cluster also explores theoretical frameworks ranging from realism, liberalism, to critical approaches such as critical security studies, securitization theory, and feminist security studies. The aim is to understand how threats are defined, who is considered a security actor, and how security policies and practices are formed and implemented.

Foreign Policy Analysis

The Foreign Policy Analysis Cluster focuses on the study of how states formulate, implement, and evaluate their foreign policy in response to global dynamics. Research in this cluster covers the actors, processes, and factors that influence decision-making in foreign policy—from political leadership, bureaucratic institutions, domestic pressures, to the structure of the international system.

We examine foreign policy from various theoretical approaches, such as realism, liberalism, constructivism, as well as cognitive perspectives and decision-making analysis. Through data-based approaches, document studies, and narrative and discursive analysis, this cluster provides a space for critical and applied research for students and researchers who wish to understand the complexity and dynamics of foreign policy.

Bridging Theory and Practice in Global Affairs

The Core Framework of International Relations Cluster offers essential analytical tools and perspectives to understand, explain, and respond to the complexities of global politics. It lays the groundwork for deeper explorations of international phenomena and equips learners to navigate an interconnected world.
